What Is Karate ?
Karate or karate-do is a martial art of Okinawan origin. Research indicates that it developed from a blend of indigenous Okinawan fighting methods and southern Chinese martial arts. Karate is known primarily as a striking art, featuring punching, kicking, knee/elbow strikes and open handed techniques. However, grappling, joint manipulations, locks, restrains, throws and vital point striking are inherent to the art. Karate was introduced to mainland Japan around the beginning of the 20th Century, where it gained in popularity, before being introduced to overseas countries.
How Does The School Benefit ?
Undoubtedly, when you are in the process of completing your Ofsted Self Evaluation form, you will be able to demonstrate that you have satisfied so many more criteria. Karate can have such a positive impact on an individuals life that children often make massive improvements in other areas, such as academic study or other sports. Taught effectively, karate can help to improve a pupils overall performance, and thus help to raise standards in your school.
How do the children benefit ?
The benefits for a child learning karate are many. Unfortunately, we live in a very violent society. All children should begin learning some form of basic self defence as early as possible. By beginning karate at primary school age, children are equipping themselves with a vital skill for later in life, although hopefully one that they will never need to use ! Other benefits of karate are: - Increased health and well being.
- Improvement in co-ordination.
- Greater level of concentration.
- Increase in self confidence.
- Greater self respect, and greater respect for others.
- Great way to channel excess energy in a controlled safe environment.
- Many parents report that there children become better behaved, less aggressive / boisterous, and at the same time often notice an increased performance in their school work.
In addition, as the lessons are taught in the traditional Japanese manner ( with Japanese language and terminology ), the children also get an insight into the etiquette of another culture. Heavy emphasis is placed on discipline and respect. Contrary to the visual perception of karate being a violent sport, the premier dictate of this sport is non-violence above all else.
How much does the course cost ?
The course is charged to the school at a fixed rate per weekly session, regardless of the number of students attending the course. This cost can be passed on to parents, paid for in full by the school, or a combination of both. Upon receipt of your order, we will send the school an invoice for the full cost of the course, which can be paid within 28 days. This gives the school time to collect money from parents, before paying for the course. Please call or email to discuss rates.
